Explorer Unit - ages 14 to 18

Who, Where, When & What?

Llanidloes Explorer Scout Unit is open to young people aged between 14 and 18. We meet on Thusday evenings 6.30 to 8.30pm.

We try to be outdoors as often as possible: campfires, hikes, walks, wild camps, archery, knifecraft, navigation skills, fishing, pottery, cycling, cooking, film nights, cinema, bowling, paintballing, working for the environment, litter-picking, community gardening, helping with community projects such as dementia and Remembrance Sunday are just a few of the things we have done in the last 12 months. The Explorers plan their own evenings in the Autumn and Summer terms.

We belong to a wider community of Montgomeryshire Explorer Scouts. Each year collectively we take part in white water rafting, canoeing weekends, an Incident Night Hike and the ever popular Operation Commando.

DofE Awards

During the Spring term we follow the Duke of Edinburgh Award training programme and have Explorers working to bronze, silver and gold levels of the award.

Further Afield & Abroad

Some Explorers take part in an annual sailing expedition on the Norfolk Broads. We have also been part of an international Jamboree in Switzerland where we took part in many games, activities, high level Alpine hikes and glacial walks.

If you are able to offer help in any way or would like to join our group, please get in touch.
